Bucks County Playhouse announces South Asian arts initiative
Bucks County Playhouse producers Alexander Fraser, Robyn Goodman and Josh Fiedler recently announced a new partnership with producer and director Kiran Merchant to create the South Asian Art Initiative.
The initiative is a multidisciplinary arts program dedicated to the promotion, presentation and awareness of the impact of South Asian heritage arts and artists. It is designed to provide a platform for the exploration of South Asian artists working in the performing, visual and literary arts.
“The South Asian artist community is growing and thriving globally, but there aren’t enough platforms for these artists to showcase their talent,” said Merchant. “I am honored and delighted to be collaborating on SAAI’s effort with Bucks County Playhouse.”
The SAAI will officially launch in 2022 with its first South Asian Playwright Festival. The theater is accepting submissions for plays from South Asian writers until February 28. Finalists will receive a stipend and mentorship from prominent members of the arts community. One of the pieces will be selected for future development.
Interested writers should submit a cover letter, resume and / or artist statement along with their full script in PDF format using the web form at buckscountyplayhouse.org/saai. Those submitting a music script should include demos in mp3 format if available.
Only work in line with the mission and artistic values of the South Asian Arts Initiative will be responded to. The information and the complete submission form are available at buckscountyplayhouse.org/SAAI. Questions about the program can be emailed to [email protected]
The SAAI will include a variety of events, including conversation and production opportunities, including film festivals showcasing flagship works by South Asian artists and featuring artists; panels and discussions featuring prominent members of film, theater and television; and readings and festivals of plays and other literary works by South Asian playwrights.
