CP Holiday Train Raises Thousands of Dollars for Maple Ridge Food Bank – Maple Ridge News


Thousands of people were raised for the Maple Ridge Food Bank after the CP Holiday Train virtual concert over the weekend.

Friends In Need Food Bank received $ 15,000 through the online event which took place on Saturday December 18th.

“This year, we also received $ 1,000 from the Town of Pitt Meadows and $ 500 from a CPR employee to support the virtual train,” said Mary Robson, executive director of the local food bank.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the CP Holiday train traveled coast to coast across Canada and the United States, stopping in various communities where a live concert would be given.

Locally, the train would stop at Port Haney Station in Maple Ridge and Harris Road Pitt Meadows Station.

This is the second year in a row that the live concert has been canceled by Canadian Pacific Railway.

Canadian Music Hall of Fame Steven Page, former lead singer of the Barenaked Ladies, and Juno Award-winning group The Strombellas kick off Holiday train home concert streamed on Facebook, YouTube and the CP Holiday Train website.

Other artists included: rock band, The Trews; Winnipeg-based Métis singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Sierra Noble; Vancouver alternative rock band Odds; Toronto-based soul singer Tanika Charles; Folk, soul and alt-pop singer-songwriter Oji-Cree Aysanabee; and Keb ‘Mo’, five-time Grammy Award winner and 14 time Blues Foundation Award winner. The purpose of the Holiday train home concert is to inspire support for food banks across North America, said Keith Creel, President and CEO of CP.

“While we are disappointed that we cannot once again bring a live performance to the communities along our railroad tracks, it gives us great joy to bring together such exceptional musicians for a performance that will help nourish Canadians and Americans. in need, ”added Creel. “The CP family can’t wait to get the Holiday Train back on tour as soon as it’s safe.

The CP Holiday Train has raised a total of $ 20.64 million since the inaugural tour in 1999 and including CP corporate donations this year. And, in previous years, food banks have also raised £ 4.9million in food donations at local Holiday Train events.
