Free summer concert series bringing jazz, bluegrass, rock and funk to Lexington Parks

Lexington’s Parks & Recreation division has announced the schedule for four summer concert series, bringing a variety of musical genres to parks around Lexington for free beginning in May.

“Summer concerts are back and bigger than ever! We often get comments that people want more outdoor concerts,” said Amber Luallen, superintendent of arts and cultural events for parks and recreation. “We’ve improved things to deliver our biggest summer concert program ever. It’s a great opportunity for people to hang out, picnic, enjoy local food vendors and listen to amazing musicians.

The first series, Big Band & Jazz, which has been running for more than 40 years, will kick off at the Moondance Amphitheater with concerts every Tuesday from May 17 to June 28, before moving to Ecton Park for the rest of the series, July 5 – August 9. The Northside Nights concert series, which kicked off last year, will kick off soon after and take place every other Friday in Castlewood Park, from May 27 to September 2. Southland Jamboree returns to the Moondance Amphitheater from June 2 and takes place Thursday through September 1. Finally, the Summer Nights in Suburbia series will take place every other Friday, June 3 through August 26, at the Moondance Amphitheater.
