WHEELING — Iconic classic rock band America will perform Independence Day weekend on Saturday, July 2 at the historic Capitol Theater in downtown Wheeling.

Led by talented singer-songwriter duo Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell, America celebrates the 50th anniversary of their self-titled debut album this year.

The platinum-selling band has influenced generations of musicians with the hallmark of sonic, harmony-rich classics.

The show’s promoter, Charles “Chic” Porch of ChicP Promotions, is himself a local music lover and a longtime fan of the band America, which he first heard as a grad student at the West Virginia University in 1972.

“I’ve been an American fan ever since and have seen them in concert many times over the years, most recently in Pittsburgh about three years ago,” Porch said. “That’s when I thought this was the band I wanted to bring to the Capitol Theater as my first venture into the music promotion business, and here we are.”

Porch said it was a perfect opportunity to get away from all the stress of inflation, the struggling economy, political tensions and social drama for a change from a fun night out on the holiday weekend. in the friendly city.

“People need to take a break, even if it’s just for a few hours,” he said. “What better way to de-stress than to attend a concert by one of the greatest classic rock bands of all time, America.
