Lionel Messi tested positive for Covid-19, Paris Saint-Germain announced, just days after the superstar was seen singing and dancing at a concert in Argentina.

A video on Instagram showed Messi and his wife having fun at a concert in Rosario, Sante Fe.

Now the French giants have confirmed that he has contracted the virus and is self-isolating. Three of Messi’s teammates have also tested positive, including Sergio Rico, Juan Bernat and Nathan Bitumazala. It is not known if Messi caught the virus during the concert.

The Paris Saint-Germain star last played his 1-1 draw against FC Lorient on December 22 before Ligue 1 broke up for the holiday season.

The club’s next match is against Vannes in the Coupe de France on Monday, before facing Lyon in the league on January 9.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino said Messi was still in Argentina and would not travel until he tested negative, meaning that he was unable to set a date for his eventual return to action.

Messi is said to have returned to Argentina with his compatriots and PSG teammates Angel Di Maria and Mauro Icardi after their last game against Lorient.

Surprisingly enough, the recently crowned seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has struggled to adjust to the French giants after his emotional exit from Barcelona this summer.

Messi has only scored one goal in 11 Ligue 1 games so far this season and the highly anticipated first three, also consisting of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, have yet to live up to expectations.

He has been in good shape for the club in the Champions League, however, scoring five goals in as many appearances.
