MMD, K-Pop’s Newest Girl Group, Is All Moms, Find Out
MMD is one of the newest additions to K-pop girl groups. The group was formed on the tvN variety show, Mama the Idol. The show is about legendary stars who have taken time off after giving birth and raising their children who are ready for a comeback. The show has some awesome stars who were part of girl groups or active actresses.
The members of MMD are Park Jung-ah from Jewelry, Sunye from Wonder Girls, Kahi from After School, Yang Eun Ji from Baby Vox Re.V, Hyun Jyu-ni from Scarlet mojo-Pin and finally solo artist Byul.
They released a new song, “WooAh HIP,” on January 28. The song is a slap house dance track with some trap elements. The message of the song, according to a report by Soompi, relays: “You too can become like us”.
According to a Next Shark Report, pop culture critic Kim Heon-sik said, “Female fans who loved them at the height of their popularity have also aged and are likely to be mothers themselves today. Many of them may also have interrupted or ended their careers because of childcare. So it’s natural for them to become emotionally invested in female stars’ attempts to reclaim their careers and gain a sense of satisfaction vicariously.
He also noted how the concept shattered many outdated ideas about the age of female idols. He said: “Compared to male idols, women were judged much more harshly on their youth or the effects of aging on their appearance. But nowadays, more female idol fans are women and are very loyal.
MMD released a performance video on YouTube of their new song, WooAh HIP. The video received a fairly positive response. The video didn’t take long to hit 100 million views and is on its way to hitting 200 million soon!
