Musical fundraiser will take place to support a refugee family
A NIGHT of musical entertainment is underway to raise funds for a refugee family due to arrive in Bridport.
The Bridport Refugee Support Campaign will organize Rock for Refugees, a musical evening, on Saturday, October 30.
The concert will take place at WI Hall on North Street, Bridport from 7:30 p.m.
The inspiration behind the event came when the local quartet, Avalon Sound, approached the campaign group during the lockdown and asked if they could participate in a fundraiser to support them. The group agreed and said they would host an event once the regulations allowed.
Alex Green, singer from Avalon Sound, said: âWe wanted to do something to help the campaign because the refugee crisis is bigger than ever right now and we all need to pull ourselves together.
“Starting a new life after losing everything is so traumatic and if we as a community can welcome a family and help them settle in, it is worth getting involved.”
Alongside Avalon Sound, the night’s entertainment will feature groovy duo Psychadelephant, Sammy Hurden and Rosie Smith. The four artists agreed to perform for free in a campaign supporting the campaign.
A bar has been set up for the evening to accompany the music and the group will give other news on the progress of the campaign.
Mr Lovejoy said: “The arrival of the family is getting closer and we are very grateful to all of our supporters, we hope to see many of them at the event and we can tell them the latest news.”
