New York’s Ice Theater to Perform Skate Pop-Up Concert at Governor’s Island Ice Sculpture Show
New York’s Ice Theater will present 2022 City Skate Pop Up Concerts on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at Governor’s Island Winter Village as part of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) and Trust for Governors Island’s first-ever Ice Sculpture Show.

This version of “Arctic Memory” is adapted from material developed by Sperling during a 43-day polar science mission in the Arctic. There, Sperling danced on sea ice and directed the Creative Climate Award-winning short film “Ice Floe”. The work is inspired by modern dance pioneer Lo e Fuller. The costume is hand painted with patterns evoking the Arctic ice floe.

About the performers
Danil Berdnikov is from the city of Samara in Russia. Danil was part of the junior national team and competed in Russia until he finished high school. Danil then decided to move to Moscow to continue his education and join Stage Entertainment Russia for the opportunity to start performing as an ice skater. Performing in front of an audience, Danil fell in love with skating in a new way, so he continued to skate professionally for the past eight years. During his professional skating career, Danil has had the privilege of working for Willy Bietak Productions and Wheeler Productions in the US, Stageworks Worldwide Production in the UK, Holiday on Ice Productions and Dynamic Shows Entertainment in the EU, Stage Entertainment Russia. Ice skating has given Danil many different opportunities, including the ability to travel the world and do what he truly loves. He is very grateful to his parents, coaches, choreographers and fellow skaters who have supported him throughout his journey, and he is very happy to realize another incredible dream of performing for Ice Theater in New York, Inc.
Valerie Levine has been dancing tap, jazz and ballet since she was 4 years old and started roller skating around this time. After begging her parents to take figure skating lessons, she started training at age 11. She auditioned for Disney On Ice in high school and was accepted, but first decided to get her bachelor’s degree in college. She then got her senior women’s moves and pre-gold in ice dancing at age 19 and skated as an ice girl for the NHL teams New York Rangers and New York Islanders during these years. She deepened her knowledge of dance while in college by earning her bachelor’s degree in textile product management from the Fashion Institute of Technology. She graduated with a minor in dance and trained at the Broadway Dance Center in many dance styles, which led to her current career as a professional belly dancer, ballroom dancer, Brazilian samba dancer, fire performer, etc. Valerie has collaborated with ITNY events over the past decade. Elizabeth (Liz) Yoshiko Schmidt has been skating with ITNY since 2017. Lush edges, dynamic artistic movement and traditional ice dancing inform her skating and professional career which began in 2013 at the age of 18, performing at the internationally in Germany and across the United States. A Japanese/German-American skater originally from Chicago, Illinois, she recently moved from San Francisco, California to New York. A double gold medalist in American Figure Skating in Freestyle and Field Movements, and a silver medalist in Ice Dance, Liz received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2018 and has exhibited her work in the bay area. .
