North Rock Creek Band Makes History

Students from the local North Rock Creek Band made history last week.

Tansy Brooks, baritone saxophonist for the North Rock Creek Cougars, became the first NRC student to serve in the Oklahoma Music Educators Association’s All-State Band. Tansy took part in the band at OMEA last week as a member of the All-State Jazz Band. Tansy worked with students across the state under All-State Clinician Kris Berg for two days before presenting the annual All State Jazz Concert.

Along with being part of the All-State Band, Tansy was also voted “Outstanding High School Jazz Musician of the Year” by the Oklahoma Jazz Educators Association. This prize was also presented to him during the jazz concert last week.

This completes a process started by Tansy and other NRC students when testing began in November. Another notable achievement was made by Colton Burch, North Rock Creek Senior who backed up for the All-State Concert Band, placing him in the top 10 high school euphonium players in the state.

“I’m so proud of these children,” said headmaster Mr Potter, adding that they worked so hard and it’s great to see it paying off.
