Post-Race Party to Rock Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend | News, Sports, Jobs

File photo – Participants scale the walls of Fort Henry near the finish line of the 2019 Tough as Nails Urban Challenge. Following this year’s Tough as Nails and Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic on Memorial weekend Day, post-race parties will feature music, food and drink to keep the fun going.

WHEELING — During the two-day Ogden Journals Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine, the fun doesn’t stop once the competitors cross the finish line.

There will be more waiting for everyone – from competitors to spectators – after both the Ogden Half Marathon Classic on Saturday May 28 and the Tough As Nails Urban Challenge presented by The Health Plan on Sunday May 29 . The post-race party on both days will feature lots of great music, food to satisfy the appetite and drinks to quench the thirst.

These parties are another side to the weekend, a way to bring everyone together and turn it into a fun event in its own right.

“We always want to do this for the community,” said Brian Clutter, COO for The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register. “We want to make it a real community event rather than just a road race.”

On Saturdays, as runners run through the Ogden Half Marathon Classic course, the entertainment starts early. DJ Jan Jursa will be spinning tunes from 7:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Also at 7:30 a.m. that day, the Ultra Bar, sponsored by Carenbauer Distributing Corp., will open. There, runners and spectators can purchase beer, hard seltzer, and other beverages. There will be kiosks to check IDs and buy drink tickets and ATMs will be on site.

The Tough As Nails Urban Challenge kicks off Sunday noon and the Ultra Bar opens at 1 p.m. On that day, competitors and spectators can enjoy cold drinks while listening to live music.

Local rock band Spinning Jenny will take the stage from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. that day. The Mingo Junction, Ohio group consists of sisters Julia, Talia and Angelina Balzano and their father, Dr. John Balzano. The band focuses on rock and punk music and pepper in well-known and more obscure covers with their original songs.

After another DJ set from 3-4:30 p.m., Pittsburgh band Jukebox will take the stage from 4:30-6 p.m. artists from Aerosmith to Train to Maroon 5.

And on both days, there will be a variety of food trucks on site offering different cuisines to snack on. The party will be held both days at the waterfront near the WesBanco Arena in downtown Wheeling.

“It’s just a great kick-off for the summer,” Clutter said.
