Smithville was treated to a night of the sounds of Motown
July 12, 2021
The Jimmy Church Band took ALL to âChurch of the Soulâ in their super tight Saturday night headlining performance at Bert Driver’s Burlap Room.
One of the world’s leading dance and performing groups, Jimmy Church is a high-energy 10-piece band made up of rhythm and brass sections, dazzling choreography, and titillating vocals from Cinnamon and Spice.
“Jumpin ‘Jordan Morack and the Mighty Beans”, a group of jazz musicians (some from MTSU), led by Jordan Morack, brought the Burlappers to the point of “We want more music”, which was the exact goal of a opening act. Young, dynamic and funky, it was exciting to see these talented players already taking a head start in honing their skills live on our Redbud stage, âsaid Bert Driver.
Even seasoned veterans of the Jimmy Church Band were impressed with the chops and the performances of the âyoung onesâ.
And now back to Mr. Jimmy Church and his first-rate entourage. âIt’s amazing that this world traveler is still on stage (at the age of 82), having played professionally for almost (65) years. They have one of the most professional and high class bands I have ever seen⦠and have been for over fifty years, âsaid Driver!
Saturday night was no exception as Jimmy, with his squeaky brass section, featured vocalists Cinnamon and Spice (their steamy rendition of Proud Mary would have made Ms. Tina proud!)
Mr. Jimmy and the band had a wonderfully diverse group of Burlappers and danced like crazy to songs from Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and the complete playbook from Motown to Eric Clapton, Journey and Bruno Mars!
“After playing in pretty much every house of the fraternity in every major college, after being invited by the royal family to play a special reception in England, (partitioning off with Prince Harry, etc.), having been Voted “America’s # 1 Alliance” by Vogue Magazine, the Jimmy Church Band “Brought It Home” to the Smithville Burlappers. It was a magical and unforgettable evening for all involved and indeed a tribute suitable for some of the best music and performers God ever sent us to help us deal with all the crazy things. Come on Mr. Jimmy Church, âsaid Driver
