Tiffin University’s “Up in the Air” will perform at Carnegie Hall

Tiffin, Ohio— On the evening of Friday, June 3, eight members of Tiffin University’s a cappella vocal group, Up in the Air, will join college, high school, and community choirs and ensembles from across the country for a performance at famed Carnegie Hall. in New York, New York.

They will be conducted by John Stafford, one of the country’s greatest choirmasters. The performance will also feature jazz singers Peter Eldridge and Lauren Kinhan, members of the Grammy-winning ensemble, New York Voices.

This collaborative show will be the national premiere of “Missa Lucia”, a choral jazz mass by composer Justin Binek. Binek is a longtime TU colleague, frequently serving as a guest artist, clinician, and/or teacher for university-sponsored music festivals and summer camps.

“This is a historic moment for both TU’s Institute of Creative Arts and the University as a whole,” said Brad Rees, Vice Provost for Creative Arts. “Up in the Air have worked for and earned the privilege of performing at one of the most coveted venues in the world among these internationally recognized talents. Their unwavering commitment has been evident since we began rehearsals and I am so proud of what they have collectively accomplished.

Up in the Air will also perform for a creative and performing arts high school in eastern Pennsylvania before the Carnegie Hall concert. Additionally, they will be hosting a show at the Shawnee Craft Brewery in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. There, the band will perform with recording artist and Tiffin native Regina Sayles on Saturday, June 4.
