Up Close and Personal with PSO at Jimmy’s continues December 12

PORTSMOUTH – The new chamber music series from the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra at Jimmy’s Jazz & Blues Club continues on Sunday December 12 at 5:30 pm with “Brass (R) evolution”. The concert is the second in a six-part series that explores the boundaries between jazz and classical music.

Travel through space and time with the PSO Brass Quintet on a colorful musical journey through many styles and genres of music composed specifically for the brass ensemble. Today’s brass quintet has its origins in many walks of life, including the streets of post-Civil War New Orleans, where disbanded military groups provided a sudden supply of cheap brass and inspired a genuine crossroads of creativity and innovation. From there, musical freedoms and avant-garde composers experimented with brass quintet music written in many modern and post-modernist styles. This vibrant concert will leave the listener in a flood of sounds and impressions of the evolution of the brass ensemble.

The Up Close and Personal with the PSO at Jimmy’s Chamber Music Series showcases the richness, flexibility and often surprising range of the classical chamber music repertoire in Jimmy’s century-old, spectacularly restored state-of-the-art club. Accompanied by delicacies and libations, this series promises chamber music like the public has never experienced before.

Tickets cost $ 75 per person and include the concert as well as entrees, dinner and dessert from an à la carte menu that will change seasonally. Doors open at 4.30 p.m. before each performance. For more details on the program or to purchase tickets, visit www.portsmouthsymphony.org.

Following concerts in the series include “Rhapsody” on January 23, “Respiro di colori” on February 27, “Strings + One” on April 10. The series ends with “Intimate Voices” on May 22.

Founded in 1997, the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra is made up of more than 65 local professionals, educators, dedicated amateurs and advanced students, all of whom, without exception, must be fully immunized.
