National Oyster Day. Head to oyster happy hours at The grillwith half-shell oysters for $2 each (Friday, the quay), Assembly fog point (Fri, Arlington), Where Succotashwhere fried oysters are only $13 (Fri, Penn Quarter). You can also celebrate with fresh seafood at cranes (Fri, Chinatown), Michele (Friday, downtown), Where Ruse at the Wildset Hotel (Friday, Saint-Michel).

  • More gastronomic events. Taste burgers from your favorite restaurants, drink beer and give back to a good cause at DC Burger Battle (game, $45*, the dock). Sidewalk sale. Support local businesses around Logan Circle and U Street by heading to the MidCity Dog Day Sidewalk Festival (Sat-Sun, free, Logan Circle) where you can buy food, art, jewelry and more. You can do some shopping at 16th Annual Middleburg Summer Sidewalk Sale (Fri-Sun, free, Middleburg).

Exhibitions and events. Travel to the 50 States through images and paintings at opening of the People From Away exhibition (Sun, free, Georgetown). You can also watch amazing tricks at this magic show with Ran’D Shine (Sat, $5, Anacostia), see a solar phenomenon Black Star Park Day (Monday, Free, Rosslyn), or watch the final tennis matches at CitiOpen (Mon-Sun, $30+, Rock Creek Park).

Break a sweat. Start your day off right with outdoor yoga at Sundeck Greeting Series (Tuesday, free, Navy Yard) or paddle six miles on the Isle of Wye Kayak Tour (Sun, $140+, Greenbelt). If you like to dance, you can do some moves on a roof at Endorphin hour with The LINE DC (Tuesday, free but RSVP required, Adams Morgan) or learn salsa at Baila Thursdays Summer Salsa Social (Thursday, $7+, Union Market).

Laugh. Have fun in the architecture of the National Cathedral at the Humor and Fantasy Tour at the National Cathedral (Thursday, $30, Cleveland Park). You can also enjoy a laugh at the Friday sweets showcase (Fri, free, Cardozo) or the Comedy show Public Laughs (Tuesday, $10+, Cercle Dupont).

Learn a new skill. Jam out. There are plenty of free gigs around DC this week. Listen to psychedelic funk at Dock Days of Summer Show (Sun, free, Woodbridge), or a lot of jazz at first concert of the AdMo Vibe concert series (Sea, Free, Adams Morgan) Where Cider jazz jam (Sun, Free, Petworth). You can also be part of a live studio audience at Sandman & Deca Homeboy Show (Saturday, $16, College Park).

Make a difference. Head to Busboys & Poets to listen to peace-seeking professionals at 77 years later: Eliminate nuclear weapons, not life on Earth (Fri, free, Cardozo) or learn more about women and gender politics at Hear the Hear Her Roar protests and marches (Saturday, $0+, the National Mall).

Children’s corner. Children can enjoy a book read to them at Family reading books (Saturday, Free, Capitol Riverfront) Where Storytime at the National Gallery of Art (Monday, free, the National Mall).
